Dark and Light in Arcane Lineage
The previous branding wave — still the source of the best starter videos, no longer the live thumbnail.
Dark and Light is the subtitle a lot of players still type into YouTube. The live game has moved on to Withered Grove, but the best first-hour advice was recorded under the old name. This page tells you what to keep from that era and what to throw away.
The clip in the middle of this article is a Dark and Light starter guide. Watch it for the loop, not for the UI chrome.
Keep these lessons
- Normal mode is a trap. Hard is the real beginner setting.
- Die three times at level 1 with zero Essence to see The Soulmaster.
- Take Daze from Yorn. Unlock the Encyclopedia. Buy a weapon at 5.
- Meditate on a mat. Spend Essence at the orb. Buy health on the Soul Tree.
- Party up before a named boss.
That list is also our getting started page, written without the old title card.
Throw these away
- Any redeem-code overlay from that season. There was no box then either. See Codes.
- Exact gold prices and merchant inventories. Grove moved tables.
- Race odds screenshots. Lineages have been added and weighted since.
- Trainer screenshots that do not match Left Ctrl icons in your client.
- “This Super Class is broken” clips that predate two retunes. Use the live Super Class list.
Why the name still matters
Search demand did not follow the thumbnail. People still type Dark and Light when they want a starter guide. That is why this page exists as its own URL instead of a footnote. If you landed here from that query, you are in the right house and the wrong year — continue to the beginner guide after the video.
Migration checklist
If your character was born in Dark and Light and woke up in Grove:
- Confirm class and race in B.
- Confirm the weapon shop ladder still sells your replacement.
- Confirm your Super Class trainer still exists.
- Take one slime pack to see if the bar feels identical. It should.
- Only then look at new Grove bosses.

They show Yorn, the mat, the orb, and a first wipe that is supposed to happen. They do not need Grove branding to stay true. Watch them muted if the UI chrome makes you copy a dead vendor list. Listen for Space, Daze, and Hard. Skip any chapter titled codes, secret race, or solo Legendary.\n\nIf a Dark and Light clip ranks Super Classes, treat the rank as a snapshot. Open the live Super Class list after the video. If the clip shows a trainer hallway, walk there with Left Ctrl and stop if the icon is gone. Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Dark and Light still the current update?
No. It is the previous branding era. Withered Grove is the live wrapper.
Can I still watch Dark and Light beginner videos?
Yes, for the first-hour loop. Ignore drop tables, race odds, and any UI that does not match your client.
Did Dark and Light add codes?
No. The game still has no redeem box.
Should I reroll a Dark and Light character just because Grove launched?
No. Confirm class, race, and trainer first. Wipe only if Trello names a lineage you actually want and you can reclear.
