How Alignment Works in Arcane Lineage

Orderly, Neutral, and Chaotic — the invisible fork that can block a Super Class trainer you walked two zones to reach.

Alignment Guide

Alignment is the hidden layer that decides which Super Class trainers will talk to you. The game does not print your alignment on the character sheet. It silently tracks whether your run has been helpful, neutral, or violent, and then opens or closes doors based on that history. This page is the practical guide: how to check, how to build the one you want, and how not to walk two zones for a handshake that refuses to fire.

Read this before you walk a Super Class trainer, not after.

What alignment actually does

Alignment gates Super Class trainers around level 15. The five Base Classes each fork into two Super Classes, and those forks are tied to an alignment axis:

  • Orderly — Paladin (Warrior), Ranger (Thief/Westwood), Monk (Martial Artist), Elementalist (Wizard)
  • Chaotic — Berserker (Warrior), Assassin (Thief), Darkwraith (Martial Artist), Necromancer (Wizard)
  • Neutral — Blade Dancer, Lancer, Brawler, Hexer

If you have been killing NPCs, ignoring quest givers, or refusing to help, the Chaotic trainers open and the Orderly trainers close. The reverse is true for helpful runs. Neutral sits in the middle and pays a gold tax instead of an alignment check.

How to check your alignment

The client does not show a visible meter. Community-tested ways to check:

  • Talk to a known Orderly or Chaotic trainer and see if they give you the handshake or a refusal line
  • Watch for dialogue changes in NPCs who reference your conduct
  • Some quest turn-ins print a reputation comment that hints at your current lean

If you are mid-run and unsure, do not guess. Farm a few helpful quests before you walk to Westwood for Ranger.

How to build Orderly alignment

Orderly paths want helpful conduct. Community consensus on what counts:

  • Completing help quests and delivery errands
  • Accepting and finishing NPC requests that do not end in murder
  • Church of Raphion activities and Bless-related covenant work
  • Using Way of Life hideout requests rather than farming chaos events

Yorn’s Daze quest is a neutral-to-positive act. The Bounty Board is neutral. Guild requests that ask you to retrieve rather than eliminate tend toward Orderly.

How to build Chaotic alignment

Chaotic paths want violent conduct. Community consensus:

  • Killing NPCs instead of completing their requests
  • Murder-streaking through zones
  • Cult of the World covenant activities
  • Refusing help and choosing intimidation options in dialogue

The risk with Chaotic is that some Super Class trainers in the Chaotic cluster still require specific conduct. Read the trainer card on Trello before you commit to a murder streak.

The Neutral exception

Neutral Super Classes — Blade Dancer, Lancer, Brawler, Hexer — do not check alignment. They check a gold amount instead. If you failed the Orderly or Chaotic path you wanted, Neutral is the backup plan. The cost is real gold, not a walk back through the zone you just farmed.

Slayer is the exception. Saint and Impaler both exist on the Chaotic-to-Neutral spectrum. Community notes still put Saint as the support-leaning fork that tolerates some Orderly conduct, while Impaler wants the full Chaotic lean.

What to do if the trainer refuses

If you walked to a Super Class trainer and got a refusal line instead of a handshake:

  1. Check whether you are at the right trainer for your Base Class. Wrong weapon, wrong door.
  2. Check whether you have met the level requirement. Most forks want level 15 or higher.
  3. Check your alignment. If the trainer is Orderly and you have been killing everything, the door is closed.
  4. Do a few helpful quests and return. Alignment shifts are not instant but they are not permanent either.

Do not shard a character because you chose the wrong alignment path. You can still reach a Super Class — it might just be the other fork or the Neutral gold option.

Alignment and Covenants

Covenants are a separate system from alignment but they interact. Church of Raphion leans Orderly. Cult of the World leans Chaotic. Blades of the World and Way of Life sit in the middle. If you are grinding alignment through a covenant, make sure that covenant’s hideout requests are actually moving your alignment in the direction you want.

Quick reference

  • Alignment is hidden and gates Super Class trainers
  • Orderly opens Paladin, Ranger, Monk, Elementalist
  • Chaotic opens Berserker, Assassin, Darkwraith, Necromancer
  • Neutral costs gold instead of checking alignment
  • Slayer forks into Saint (leaning Chaotic/Orderly-tolerant) and Impaler (full Chaotic)
  • Alignment shifts are possible mid-run — do helpful or violent quests to move the needle

The Super Class tier list has power ranks. This page has the gatekeeping. Read both before you walk a trainer you cannot enter.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I check my alignment in Arcane Lineage?

The client does not show a visible meter. Talk to a known Orderly or Chaotic trainer to see if they give you the handshake or a refusal line.

Does alignment affect my base stats or combat?

No. Alignment only gates which Super Class trainers will teach you. Combat, stats, and loot are unaffected.

Can I switch alignment mid-run?

Yes. Alignment shifts based on your recent conduct. Helpful quests build Orderly; violent acts build Chaotic.

What is the Neutral Super Class option?

Blade Dancer, Lancer, Brawler, and Hexer are Neutral forks that ignore alignment and require gold instead. They are the backup if you failed your preferred path.

Which alignment is needed for Ranger?

Ranger is the Orderly Westwood fork. You need Orderly alignment to receive the handshake from Orkin in Westwood.
